Former Nebraska Cornhuskers star Tommy Armstrong won himself a championship in the Indoor Football League. That and more in today’s news.

In the annals of Nebraska football quarterbacks, Tommy Armstrong has the misfortune of playing for one of the least popular coaches in Nebraska Cornhuskers history. That doesn’t change the fact that when he played for Mike Riley, he mostly put up eye-popping numbers.

While those numbers weren’t enough to get Armstrong into the NFL (or USFL or XFL), he has formulated a professional football career. That career has led him to the Indoor Football League.

On Saturday, Armstrong led the Omaha Beef to a 50-30 victory over the Salina Liberty in Champions Bowl 8. The victory capped a perfect 12-0 record for the Beef, who won their second indoor championship in three seasons. Armstrong went 7 of 11 for 89 yards and one touchdown. He added nine carries for 36 yards and two touchdowns.

There are still some caveats in how people can gamble, including the fact that they need to be in person, as online gambling is still not allowed in the state. Bettors also won’t be able to gamble on Nebraska Cornhuskers games that take place in Lincoln. Though that means people can place bets on the Huskers’ season opener and second contests against Colorado at least.

  • The perfect day continued with the addition of Wayne’s Brooks Kneifl. Kneifl had been committed to Kansas State for quite a while, but when the Huskers hired Rob Childress, the pitcher decided to come to Nebraska.
