Nebraska Cornhuskers News: Mario Buford ‘N,’ monster schedule, more
The Nebraska Cornhuskers got a monster commit in the form of Mario Buford, who wasn’t exactly a surprise but still a much-needed addition.
Mario Buford is officially “N” and while he left Nebraska football fans waiting a bit by announcing his commitment on Thursday evening, it’s been known that he was a heavy lean to the Nebraska Cornhuskers for a while now.
The top reason that Buford picked the Huskers is that he loved the relationship he built with not only Matt Rhule, but the other coaches on the staff. This appears to have been a team effort when it comes to landing the 4-star defensive back out of Texas.
It also didn’t hurt at all that his brother Marques is a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The two have talked excitedly on social media and to really anyone who will listen, about how much fun they would find it if they were playing in the same defensive backfield. Buford is now the 8th commit in the 2024 class and with June being a big recruiting month for the Huskers, he’s expected to be the tip of the iceberg in June.
Nebraska Cornhuskers football monster schedule
The other big news of the day for the Nebraska football team was learning how the Big Ten schedule is going to shape up in 2024 and 2025, with the additions of USC and UCLA. It turns out that 2025, especially is going to be one tough row to hoe.
There was also quite a bit of talk about the Huskers potentially keeping three “true” rivals on the schedule every day. AD Trev Alberts talked about the desire to have Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin as those permanent rivals.
However, the Hawkeyes are going to be the only squad that the Huskers are guaranteed to play every season.
In 2024, the Huskers will face Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin at home. They will travel to Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, and UCLA.
In 2025, the Nebraska Cornhuskers host Illinois, Iowa, Rutgers, Michigan, and UCLA. The road schedule is a murderer’s row of Minnesota, Ohio State, and USC, with Maryland thrown in there for good measure.
Matt Rhule is gonna have to build the Nebraska football team up quickly.
