Nebraska football recruiting could be getting a big win in July if William Nettles continues to feel as good about the Huskers as he did on Sunday.
This weekend was the first big recruiting weekend post-spring game and by all accounts, Matt Rhule and company did a heck of a job. Rave reviews have been coming in from all the prospects that visited Lincoln, but one stands out because his visit could lead to a commit in a matter of weeks.
William Nettles isn’t a name that Nebraska football fans might be most accustomed to hearing about. He’s been a bit under the radar as a 3-star wide receiver prospect that has caught the attention of the coaches quite hard in the last few weeks.
However, it appears that now that Nettles is indeed in Matt Rhule’s crosshairs, the coaches really rolled out the red carpet. In fact, they did such a good job that Nettles told On3 that his visit “couldn’t have gone better.”
That’s especially good news because the wide receiver also said that he’s looking at announcing his commitment sometime in July. By then he’ll have wrapped up a couple more official visits and believes he’ll have seen enough to decide where he will go to school. The key is for the warm glow of the Nebraska football recruiting visit to remain into July.
Nebraska football target has been an SMU lean
There are some Husker fans who might believe that since Nettles hasn’t received an overwhelming amount of Power 5 offers he’d be Nebraska’s to lose. However, being a Texas prospect, there’s no guarantee he’s going to leave the Lone Star state.
It’s also worth pointing out that while the Cornhuskers might be in a stronger conference than the perceived front-runner, SMU, the Mustangs are having a bit of a resurgence of late. They’ve certainly had more on-field success than Nebraska football.
So SMU continues to be a team to watch for the wide receiver. This race might be over next month, but it could be a nail-biter until then.
