The Nebraska football team appears to be in very good position to land one of the best defensive backs out of the state of Texas.

This coming weekend kicks off what is going to be a very important period for Matt Rhule’s recruiting. It’s also entirely possible that this weekend could lead to the Huskers landing a new commit and if it does, it would be quite a boost to the 2024 recruiting class.

Mario Buford is one of several players that is going to be taking in what Nebraska football has to offer. The good news there is that the Huskers have long looked they were in good shape when it comes to landing the 4-star defensive back. At least part of the reason for that is because the 2024 prospect is the brother of current Nebraska football defensive back Marques Buford.

The tried and true way that Matt Rhule and company have gone about recruiting is by making it clear that their targets know they are badly wanted in Lincoln. They took that approach with 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola. It almost worked. It looks like it’s working with Buford.

Just ahead of his visit to Lincoln, the Desoto, Texas defender talked to On3 about how present the Huskers’ coaches have been of late.

"“This new staff has recruited me harder than any other school. They have definitely shown they’re interested in me and want to coach me.”"

It appears that the way they’ve tried to recruit Buford has worked. On3 has the Nebraska football team as the very obvious favorite to land him. The experts there consider it a 95% chance of getting the defensive back.

At the moment, Michigan State is the only other real contender. The Spartans have a 2 percent chance of stealing him away.
