Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team sees departure of four pitchers
Not long after the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team’s season came to an end, Will Bolt saw four pitchers leave on the same day.
Things move fast in college athletics. However, the speed at which the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team saw a major shift in its makeup was surprising even in this day and age. Two questions arise from the news that surfaced on Tuesday.
Jake Bunz, CJ Hood, Brandon Lundquist, and Corbin Hawkins all announced they were leaving the Nebraska Cornhuskers program. Bunz, Hood, and Lundquist are entering the transfer portal. Hawkins is apparently calling it quits on his baseball career entirely.
As for the questions that arose from those announcements? The first has to be why all four decided at virtually the same time that they were going to leave. Do they know about changes coming to the program, or that aren’t coming that will be announced in a few days? The second question is, if there aren’t planned changes, will this affect Will Bolt’s plans?
Bolt’s job seems safe after a nice run at the end of the season to finish fourth in the Big Ten. He also led the Huskers to two wins in the tourney, though lost both times his squad took on the Maryland Terapins.
Nebraska Cornhuskers bracing for more?
The losses to the Terps effectively ended the Huskers’ season as they didn’t manage to get an at-large bid to the regionals. At the moment, it’s not known whether the way the season ended or how it ended had any impact in the four pitcher departures.
Will Bolt is busy with exit meetings with his players and it’s possible the changes that are coming is a refocusing on a pitching staff that looked great at times and incredibly mediocre at others.

One thing is certain right off the bat. The Nebraska Cornhuskers relief corps is going to be facing a pretty big shakeup with the loss of all four.
