Nebraska football fans who want changes to the way that NIL works might be getting their wish in the very near future. The real question now is whether or not the changes that are coming are going to be ones that college sports fans actually want.

It’s hard to tell just what those changes are going to be right now because there are so many different options out there. So far, nothing has actually passed, but there are plenty of bills that are getting introduced. As of yet, most don’t look like they’re going to be what Nebraska football fans should really want.

The king of the bad NIL bills that have been introduced is the one that South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. That bill starts a clearing house that will basically take over where the NCAA should operate. It will also do things like ban players or suspend them if they break rules they have no say over. And it will allow schools to tell players what NIL contracts they can have.

Nebraska football fans about to see NIL change?

Mike Carey brought his own Name Image and Likeness bill to the House of Representatives. There’s no telling when or if this piece of legislation will pass but the congressman has said the main goal the potential law is to bring a “federal standard” to NIL.

This has often been the stated goal and just means that Nebraska football NIL rules would be on par with other programs and conferences. The aim is said to be reducing the confusion and “Wild West” feel of the NIL market now.

One of the reasons that it’s still hard to have any idea on what might happen in this arena is simply that there hasn’t been much in the way of real movement for quite a while now.

Bills get introduced, but nothing has seen any chance of passing so far. That means that for now, Nebraska football and the rest of the college sports world is still in limbo.
