Nebraska Cornhuskers athletic director Trev Alberts was on Sports Nightly on Monday and he talked about the biggest topic of the Big Ten’s day. That is the apparent botching of the new media deals by Kevin Warren mainly because part of the agreement was that teams play Prime Time games in November.

For now, it appears it’s still a sticking point because teams like Michigan and Ohio State don’t want to do it. However, Alberts said that he’s totally down for a November late start.

The Huskers’ AD said that in part, the program got to where it was by getting in front of as many eyes as possible. That included playing late winter night games.

He added that if there are teams that are asked about doing it again, “I’ll put my hand up every day and twice on Saturdays.”

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • While Alberts is trying to make sure to keep the deal in place with the Big Ten, he’s doing so while his own department goes through some interesting changes. That includes senior deputy AD Garrett Klassy moving on to take over the assistant athletic director job for the Houston Cougars.
  • While Klassy is on his way out, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have a new chancellor coming in. Former president at Southern Miss, Rodney D. Bennett will be taking over for Ronnie Green. He’ll see a 30-day trial period and then take over permanently should everything go well and the vetting process doesn’t turn up anything nasty.
  • The Rutgers Scarlet Knights lost a very big part of their basketball team on Monday. Cam Spencer has entered the transfer portal. The Nebraska basketball team should probably give him a look. Even if he doesn’t come to Lincoln, he’s definitely downgraded a Huskers’ opponent’s roster.
  • Speaking of the basketball team, a high school prospect the Huskers were hoping to land has slipped through their fingers. Guard Eemeli Yalaho announced over the weekend that he’s committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. It’s hard to steal prospects away from programs that have established success and the Big 12 program is, right now, in better shape.
  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers Black Friday game has long been a staple for the Big Ten as they take on Iowa. However, they have a bit of competition now as the tilt between Penn State and Michigan State was moved to the Friday after Thanksgiving.
