Just when things looked bleak for Nebraska football landing a quarterback in the 2024 class, Daniel Kaelin came along and fired up the rumor mill.

The biggest Nebraska football soap opera-type story of the last few months was whether or not Dylan Raiola was going to come play for the same program that his dad played and his uncle coaches. Now that the will he or won’t he been settled, it’s been replaced by an even more riveting story.

The new story that should have Nebraska football fans on the edge of their seats is, how many twists and turns will Huskers’ quarterback recruiting have in the span of a week? Friday some a rather big twist occur when Bellevue West quarterback Daniel Kaelin announced he was no longer committed to the Missouri Tigers.

It’s been less than a week since Dylan Raiola announced he was going to be a Georgia Bulldog. It’s been less than 24 hours since Cutter Boley committed to the Kentucky Wildcats.

For a few hours, the Nebraska football team had officially lost out on every (all three) quarterback prospects it gave official offers to in the 2024 class. And then Daniel Kaelin came striding into the room, ready to cause some havoc.

It wasn’t remotely a surprise when Kaelin committed to the Tigers. After all, Matt Rhule and company made it clear their top target was indeed Raiola. But now that Raiola is off the board?

Nebraska football making up for lost time?

The timing is certainly interesting. And I’m far from the only one who thinks this.

Not long after Kaelin announced he was now a free agent, more than a few of the quarterback’s teammates took note. That included guys like wide receiver Isaiah McMorris, who is among if not right at the top of the list when it comes to 2024 wide receiver targets. And then there’s Malachi Coleman, arguably the top overall target from the Huskers’ 2023 class.

It’s not just fellow recruits and signees who think that a Nebraska football – Daniel Kaelin team-up is in the works. Just hours after the announcement that the 3-star quarterback was a free agent started circulating the web, recruiting gurus on just about every site started putting in their crystal ball predictions.

It’s not a stretch to say that Nebraska football is the overwhelming favorite for the prospect at the moment. It doesn’t feel like it will be long until he makes it official.
