Nebraska Cornhuskers News: Teddy Rezac to Notre Dame, baseball blowout, more
The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a rare in-state recruiting loss since Matt Rhule arrived after it saw Teddy Rezac commit to Notre Dame.
The Nebraska football team under Matt Rhule has been shockingly good at reading the room when it comes to recruiting. They managed to get back into the good graces of Dylan Raiola after it appeared the Huskers were dead in the water in that regard.
And then there’s Teddy Rezac. The Omaha Westside star has been a rather under the radar prospect for the last couple of weeks though he’s suddenly become quite a bit more popular to Power 5 teams recently.
Some people didn’t understand why it took so long for Rhule and company to offer Rezac. But once they did, he was the one who got away. One day after the Nebraska Cornhuskers came calling, Rezac announced he was headed to Notre Dame.
It was an odd miss for a staff that hasn’t had many odd misses so far. It’s also one that’s likely going to make a few people a bit uneasy considering that the previous staff had quite a few misses when it came to players in and around Nebraska.
Nebraska baseball romps
The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team came into the weekend knowing that a good showing would move them very close to clinching a spot in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament. On the flip side, a bad weekend would move them one step closer to missing the tourney entirely.
So far, so good. Will Bolt’s squad opened a 3-game series against Penn State with a 19-5 victory that saw Brice Matthews make history with his 20th homer of the season.
The win has the Huskers currently sitting in 6th place. The Top 8 teams will make the tournament. Weirdly enough, the Cornhuskers even still have a chance to win the conference, if they can win out and get some help from others.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- While the Nebraska baseball team is hoping they can keep their season going, the Nebraska softball team’s season might be done. They lost in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament and will now have to sit and wait for an at-large bid to regionals. With a 34-20 record, that might be a long shot.
- It should come as no surprise to anyone that the Nebraska football team had an impressive attendance showing for its spring game. It turns out they were third in the country behind only Ohio State and Penn State. That they finished third likely means the Nebraska Cornhuskers will have something to aim for next season.
