Arik Gilbert is a tool that Nebraska football is hoping can be quite useful in 2023 and if the recent rankings are true, he will be deadly in the Big 10.

When it comes to Nebraska football’s 2023 season, Matt Rhule and company have made it clear they value the tight end position. Arik Gilbert was brought in precisely because they see it as a big weapon in Marcus Satterfield’s offense.

Now the Twitter account that is seen as an authority when it comes to top players or teams and ranking then, has said that Arik Gilbert is one of the best tight ends in the country.

In fact, Big Game Boomer said that the Nebraska football tight end is among the 50 best players at his position in the country heading into the next season. That’s quite the distinction considering that Gilbert hasn’t played a down for the Huskers.

To be fair, Gilbert is right at the end of the list. Of the 50 best tight ends, he’s number 50. Interestingly enough, a player who played for Marcus Satterfield last year at South Carolina in Joshua Simon is 49th.

In this particular list, eight Big Ten tight ends make the cut. That includes two from the Iowa Hawkeyes, who have certainly mastered the tight end position, even if they can’t put together a competent offense.

Nebraska football hoping for Arik Gilbert resurgence

Gilbert has certainly quite a bit of talent in the past, though it’s been a little while. In 2020, he caught 35 passes for over 350 yards and two touchdowns. However, he’s never come close to that as he’s been limited by injuries and by sitting out a year due to transfers.

Last year for Georgia, he had just two catches for 16 yards and a touchdown. However, Nebraska football is hoping he can find himself a resurgence and be a top receiving weapon.
