Nebraska Cornhuskers News: Quaran McPherson picks new school, baseball loses again, more
Former Nebraska basketballer Quaran McPherson picked his transfer school. Baseball lost bad. That and more in today’s Nebraska Cornhuskers news.
There’s been a lot of talk about the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team and how the squad has changed its makeup since the end of the season. Having said that, there perhaps hasn’t been enough talk about the departure of McPherson.
Coming into the 2022-23 season, there was actually quite a bit of excitement to see what the guard could do for Hoiberg’s Heroes. However, he ended up redshirting the entire season and the excitement turned to seeing what he might be able to do in the 2023-24 season.
It turns out, Nebraska Cornhuskers fans who want to see what he is capable of doing will have to check out Northern Illinois’ games to see what he has to offer.
McPherson entered the transfer portal not long after the Huskers’ season came to an end. On Sunday he announced he’d picked the Huskies as his next destination.
It will certainly be interesting to see what he’s able to pull off in the MAC. Of all the transfers that departed the Cornhuskers this offseason, McPherson is the one fans might end up regretting the most.
Keelan Smith seems like the real deal
Late last week, a 3-star prospect out of Missouri, Keelan Smith announced he’d committed to the Nebraska football team. That would have generated plenty of excitement on its own but the fact that he’s also the son of former Husker great Neil Smith makes it that much better.
The former Nebraska football star recently talked to On3 about the mindset of his son and how he came to decide on the Huskers for his college destination. In that discussion, it became pretty clear that Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are really going to like this particular commit.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- One of the sales pitches that Matt Rhule and company have come up with for recruits in the coming years is that they are able to get guys to the next level. That includes trying to get people to the NFL on the offensive and defensive line.
- The Nebraska baseball team finished a weekend series against Maryland with a pretty epic loss. After splitting the first two games, the Huskers lost on Sunday 20-5. They allowed two “snowman” innings meaning the opponent scored eight runs in the inning. They’re now just a half-game ahead of ninth-place Illinois in the Big Ten, meaning they are in danger of missing the B1G tourney for a second straight season.
Other News
- The Iowa Hawkeyes are having a weird season in baseball. That apparently includes holding out several players from their series this weekend because those players were gambling on sports. And may have been gambling on their own games.
- Over in the Big 12, a familiar name to those who followed the Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach search last fall got paid. Chris Klieman is reportedly getting an 8-year extension with Kansas State. Hardly surprising considering he’s managed to get the Wildcats back to national prominence.
