Nebraska Football hosted a surprise quarterback transfer prospect last week
The Nebraska football team hosted a transfer quarterback from Wyoming who just happens to hail from the Huskers’ own backyard.
While the Nebraska football team lost three quarterbacks to the transfer portal this week, it makes a little more sense that the Huskers hosted a quarterback from Wyoming who entered the portal himself just a few weeks ago.
Caden Clark, a redshirt freshman signal caller who was a 3-star prospect out of high school, was at one time, a Husker target. However, it appears that Scott Frost and company were hoping he would walk on, so he chose the Mountain West school instead. Now he’s entered the portal and is at least thinking about giving the Nebraska football program another look.
While the Huskers have made big headlines with some of the recruits they’ve hosted over the last few weeks, Clark’s trip to Lincoln was mainly under the radar. He didn’t talk about it until he posted on Twitter on Wednesday.
One has to wonder if he might have been largely keeping things under wraps until things started to become more clear in Nebraska. Over the last few days Richard Torres, Logan Smothers and Casey Thompson all entered the transfer portal.
What was a deep quarterback room is now frighteningly thin. Jeff Sims, Chubba Purdy, Heinrich Haarberg, and Jack Woche are the last ones standing. Speaking of Woche, it’s interesting that he also transferred to Lincoln from Ole Miss and did so in a way that barely anyone noticed at the time.
Nebraska football hosted transfer quarterback on the down low
Maybe Becker believes he’s got a real chance to be a Husker quarterback now. After all, he was one of the best prospects in the state in the 2022 recruiting class.
At the helm of Omaha Skutt, Becker threw for 1,238 yards, seven touchdowns and only two interceptions in his senior year. He also ran for over 500 yards.
It’s clear that Matt Rhule and company are quite high on mobile quarterbacks. If nothing else it would seem like Becker could take over the role that Logan Smothers was destined to play in 2023. He could add a bit of depth to the quarterback room at a time when the Nebraska football team needs it pretty bad.
