Nebraska football hadn’t gone out of its way to go after another transfer, but Bear Alexander was likely the last shot at another roster add.

The week before the Nebraska football spring game, Huskers’ head coach Matt Rhule actually made quite a few headlines when he talked about how he liked the roster he’s currently working with. His comments made some people even think he was taking a shot at Colorado coach Deion Sanders. So after those comments, it seemed unlikely that the Cornhuskers would go after even more transfer players. That was until former Georgia defensive lineman Bear Alexander entered the chat.

Once the young defensive lineman entered the transfer portal, the Nebraska football team did indeed at least check in on whether or not they could pull in another Bulldogs player. But it appears that if there was interest coming out of Lincoln, it wasn’t mutual, as Alexander announced on Sunday he committed to the USC Trojans.

Nebraska football transfer portal plays are over

The chances that the Huskers were going to end up with Alexander don’t seem high. But it was worth putting their oar in that water and seeing if they could get yet another big defensive lineman on the roster.  Now that he’s headed to USC, it seems as though Rhule and company are set with the roster they have post-spring game.

Granted, there are likely going to be some other players that decide to move on. In fact, they need to get down in order to come under the scholarship numbers they are allowed to have. That’s why Alexander was always seen as a stretch that the Huskers would go after, specifically because the former Georgia defensive player was better than others out there.

Now that he’s gone elsewhere, it feels as though Nebraska football has closed the door on adding any more transfer players.
