Hunter Sallis took an official to the spring game. Nebraska baseball got swept by Iowa. Those stories and more in today’s Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

The big news of the weekend was obviously Nebraska football and the spring game but not just because of all the stuff went down in the game. However, it was also a big weekend when it comes to recruiting and not just for the Nebraska football team.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team also used the spring game for its own recruiting. In particular Hunter Sallis, the former Nebraska high school basketball player that is now also the former Gonzaga basketball player is giving Hoiberg’s Heroes a long look.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Hoiberg the spring game moved the needle for Sallis enough to eventually pull the trigger for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Nebraska baseball swept by Iowa

The trajectory of the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball season is not particularly good right now. They had to rally to tie Creigton last week befor the game was eventually postponed due to weather. They followed that up with three straight losses to the Iowa Hawkeyes in a sweep that bumped the Cornhuskers from first to 7th in the Big Ten.

The Huskers lost 11-6, 8-0 and 6-1 and easily the most concerning part of the weekend is that not only did the Nebraska baseball pitching disappear, but so did the offense. The one run over the final two games of the series is the worst offensive output for any two games this year.

The Huskers have five games this week, finishing up with a weekend series with Minnesota and if they don’t go 4-1, things could get bad quickly.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • While the Huskers are still trying to find a way to reel in Dylan Raiola for the 2024 recruiting class, they’re also going after future class signal callers. That includes 2027 quarterback prospect Furian Inferrera who got an official offer this week.
  • The Nebraska volleyball team’s season is quite a ways away yet, but they are still gearing up for another attempt at a National Championship run. Part of that gearing up meant a scrimmage with none other than Creighton.

Other sports news

  • After quite a long dead period, there are reports that the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers are finally talking about Aaron Rodgers and a possible trade. It would appear both teams would like to get this done before the draft.
  • Memphis Grizzlies player Dillon Brooks talked quite a bit of trash about Lebron James before he punched James in the junk and was ejected from the game. Now Brooks is blaming the media for the whole thing.
