Nebraska football signee Malachi Coleman had been looking forward to continuing his high school athletic career just a little bit longer. Yes, his football career with Lincoln East has been over for a while now. When it comes to that sport, it’s all about the Cornhuskers at this point. However, he did have another sport he was planning on competing in during the rest of the spring.

However, while Coleman was showing off one of the reasons why the Nebraska football team was so interested in the in-state prospect. He’s a track and field stud as well. Unfortunately, Coleman suffered an injury lately and it turns out that the injury is bad enough that he’s decided to pull the plug.

The athlete, who was one of the biggest Nebraska football gets of the Matt Rhule era, announced he had reached the decision to end his Track and Field career on Twitter earlier this week.

"“Due to my injury first week of the track season, I will not be continuing my high school track career. I will instead be focusing on getting ready for college. Please respect my decision”"

When Coleman said “getting ready for college,” what he really meant is that he’s gearing up for when he gets to play for the Cornhuskers. He made that clear with the hashtag he included. He also aimed his tweet at one specific person in, Matt Rhule.

It’s worth noting that when Coleman said that he won’t be continuing his high school track career, he’s likely talking about his track career in general. The Huskers have made it clear that some of their players will run track at the university and play football.

However, Coleman will likely focus on the one sport, as he continues to look like he has a career in that well beyond Nebraska football.
