Nebraska football recruiting never stops, and that means that Matt Rhule can adjust his approach when someone like Bear Alexander becomes available.

The Nebraska football recruiting efforts these days are definitely focusing on high school kids than they are transfer players. That’s because the Huskers have a roster issue that will see them cut more guys loose than they’ll bring in with the transfer portal opening back up.

However, any good coach is going to tailor their approach to the situation in front of them. When a defensive lineman the quality and talent of a Bear Alexander suddenly enters the transfer portal, it’s definitely time to adjust the approach and go after adding another player rather.

Alexander announced he was entering the portal over the weekend and that announcement certainly shocked more than a few people in the college football world. The Georgia star just finished his freshman season and while he played sparingly throughout his first campaign, he had two sacks in Georgia’s National Title game. That seemed to be enough to convince most people he would be able to dominate the SEC in his sophomore year. Instead, it looks as though Alexander feels that Kirby Smart isn’t going to give him a fair shake.

Enter Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football recruiting apparatus that has become a hub for former Georgia players. It’s not often the Huskers would be considered a top landing spot candidate for someone like Alexander, but Rhule has definitely changed the national view of the Huskers quickly.

Considering that Omar Hales just started following Alexander, it appears that Rhule and his staff have the same idea about what should be happening now that the defensive lineman has entered the portal.

The question now is whether or not Nebraska football recruiting can really make some inroads for a player that is likely going to much sought after.
