The Nebraska Cornhuskers are looking for members of the team who could be leaders, and Thomas Fidone could be one. That and more in today’s news.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are going to be on the hunt for more than one leader for the 2023 season. There are a lot of new players and, obviously, a lot of new coaches. Being a veteran isn’t necessarily a trump card when discussing this many program additions.
Because of that, it’s a safe bet that at some of the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ leaders are going to be coming from guys who stand out in camp and spring practice. The Athletic believes that tight end Thomas Fidone is one of those players standing out and looking like a leader.
The Spring Game format mystery
A couple of months ago, Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts made it clear that he believes the spring game under Matt Rhule is going to be quite a bit more physical than what we’ve seen in the last few years. However, since making that promise, neither he nor anyone else in the Nebraska football program has shed any light on just how it will be that much more physical.
Now just a couple of weeks away from the game, we still don’t know what the Nebraska Cornhuskers have planned for the scrimmage that will close out spring practice. It’s certainly not because they don’t realize how badly people want to know. So they have to be keeping the format under their hat on purpose.
That alone is interesting.
Paring down the Nebraska Cornhuskers football roster
One of the stories that tends to get ignored is that the Nebraska Cornhuskers still need to pare down the roster quite a bit. It turns out that Matt Rhule and company might end up using some rather obscure rules regarding transfers in order to get down to the level they can enter the 2023 season with.
