Baseball might be looking at another season with no regionals, the numbers regarding booze at PBA are out, and more in today’s Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

The Nebraska baseball team suffered another bad loss on Saturday, not because Michigan is a particularly bad team but because it was a game the Huskers needed to win. Instead, the Cornhuskers lost another game that sure seemed winnable, especially if they had managed to hit better -they finished 2-for-14 – with runners on base. The didn’t hit better and despite a late rally, the Huskers lost 8-6 to the Wolverines.

The loss in and of itself isn’t that bad. However, some other less than impressive losses to teams the Nebraska Cornhuskers should be obviosuly better than is hurting their chances at a postseason, according to D1baseball.com. According to its midseason field of 64, there are four Big Ten teams that will make the regional playoffs. Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers and Indiana are those four.

The Huskers are still among the best teams in the Big Ten but their RPI is about 20 spots lower than any of those four. In other words, Will Bolt’s boys have some work to do if they don’t win the conference outright.

Nebraska Cornhuskers and booze sales

The first set of numbers are out from a season of booze sales at Nebraska basketball. It turns out that the endeavor made quite a bit of money. It turns out the university ended up making more than $607,000 during the season.

While there are currently no plans to expand alcohol sales to Memorial Stadium, it’s certainly possible these kinds of numbers are going to help if there ever is a real push. When you consider that the average attendance at PBA for Men’s games was just over 13,000 and Memorial Stadium seats over six times that number … there’s some serious cash to be made.

Nebraska Cornhuskers bowling for championship

While things didn’t quite go the way Nebraska baseball had hoped on Saturday, the Huskers’ bowling team is on quite the roll.

The squad topped Stephen F. Austin 2-1 on Saturday and are now on track to head to Las Vegas and try and win the team’s seventh national title. People talk about the volleyball and football teams’ historical success but the Huskers’ bowling program’s run is quite impressive.

Other sports news

  • A bill in the Oregon state legislature that would have required state schools to get approval from the government to change conferences has failed. Unsurprisingly, there are some people who wonder if the bill’s failure might portend Oregon, Oregon State or both leaving the Pac 12.
  • Speaking of the Pac 12, the conference is still looking for a brand new TV contract. Hilariously, it seems like the CW might be the best chance for a broadcast partner at this point.
  • The transfer portal continues to offer up tons of interesting news stories this spring and winter. People around Omaha have been up in arms about Creighton’s Ryan Nembhard leaving the ‘Jays but Hailey Van Lith transferring out of Louisville might be an even bigger story. You gotta wonder if Kentucky fans are laughing at the Cardinals’ fan base as hard as Nebraska Cornhuskers fans have been laughing at CU the last few days.
