The Nebraska Cornhuskers have made one big change to the offensive line that has nothing to do with who is starting, and it shows a big change in philosophy.

Since spring practice started, there have been plenty of things that stood out as newsworthy. There’s the fact that the quarterbacks are going to run more. There are players like Malcolm Hartzog who have been impressive. But one big change to the offensive line has actually been both subtle and could have a high impact.

Some fans noticed that footage of the Nebraska Cornhuskers this spring have shown that the offensive linemen aren’t wearing their bulky knee braces this year. Those braces were obviously in place in order to try and avoid injuries, but they were a double-edged sword. They also led to less mobility and the ability to bend.

Rhule has confirmed that the offensive line isn’t going to be wearing the braces this year. At least right now. It will be interesting to see if this has a tangible effect on the Huskers’ performance up front.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • Now that the college basketball season is officially over, it’s time for Nebraska basketball to really turn its attention to recruiting. One of its top targets, Hunter Sallis is apparently considering the Huskers, though it’s not clear how close he is to making a decision. He’s told inquiring minds that scheme fit is going to be a big factor in wherever he goes after leaving Gonzaga.
  • Another transfer target for the Nebraska Cornhuskers is one that Creighton is interested in as well. Eastern Washington transfer Steele Venters who was the Big Sky conference MVP, has heard from both Nebraska schools. Of course, it’s possible they’ll both come out as the losers in this sweepstakes but they’re also both squarely in the hunt.
  • Former Husker Jake Meyers opened the season on the Houston Astros roster and in fact, started their first two games. Unfortunately, he didn’t record a hit and has sat the bench the last two games. He did however, pinch run in Houston’s 7-6 loss on Monday night.

  • Speaking of baseball, there are now only two undefeated teams left after four games. The Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays both improved to 4-0 on the young MLB season.
  • The discourse over Kaitlin Clark and Angel Reese has officially reached the “can we please move on” stage of the controversy. Now that the basketball season is officially over, perhaps people can stop having a problem with a player showing a little fire in the biggest game of her career.
