Nebraska Cornhuskers football defensive line coach likes what he sees in veteran leadership. That and other stories in today’s Huskers news.

Terrance Knighton might be relatively new to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but he knows that one of the strengths of the unit he’s now shepherding is that there are more than a few veterans who are willing to step up and lead.

Among the defensive linemen that is making the coach known lovingly as “Pot Roast” take note is none other than Nash Hutmacher.

“Nash is leading the way right now, he’s doing a good job with leadership, taking ownership of the room. With Ty Robinson and Blaise (Gunnerson) out right now, he’s taking that leadership role to the next level. He’s doing a good job of hearing the message from Coach Rhule, hearing the message from me and applying it to the rest of the room.”

It will certainly be interesting to see where that goes as the spring continues and eventually, the players are on their own again as they wait to get back together for fall practice.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • When the Nebraska football team does eventually start doing this for real in the fall, Matt Rhule and company will be facing off against a schedule that isn’t quite as hard as it has been the last few years. According to College Football News, the Huskers have just the eighth strongest schedule in the Big 10. Conference opponents play a big part in it being difficult at all because the Huskers’ non-conference schedule doesn’t feature an Oklahoma.
  • While Nebraska football is waiting for a return to glory, Nebraska Bowling is already there. The Huskers have officially punched their ticket to an NCAA Regional that kicks off on April 7.
  • While it’s definitely nice to see the Nebraska Bowling team continue to be as good as they’ve
  • been, there’s plenty of excitement around the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. It turns out that in the Huskers big recruiting weekend, there were also a ton of former Huskers in attendance. In fact, university officials claim there were as many as 175 former Huskers watching practice over the weekend.
