Nebraska Cornhuskers: Will Walsh could be the answer for shaky backend of rotation

Did the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team find an answer to one of their biggest problems so far this season? It appears that Will Walsh has at least earned himself a chance to prove that he can indeed be the answer for Will Bolt’s boys.

That’s because Will Walsh walked to the mound on Tuesday night against North Dakota State and had the best outing of his young Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball career. While his individual performance was great, it’s the fact that the redshirt sophomore came up with the outing he did during a period of time when the Nebraska Cornhuskers have been having real problems closing out games on Sundays and weekdays.

The Huskers won the Tuesday night game against North Dakota State 4-1 and while the offensive struggles aren’t something to get really excited about, Walsh’s game kept NU in the game long enough for Brice Matthews to hit a three-run homer that gave Bolt’s Boys an insurmountable lead.

Walsh managed to have one of the best starts the Nebraska Cornhuskers have managed to do this year, going seven innings and allowing just one earned run. While walking two, he only allowed two hits while striking out a whopping 11 batters.

Will Walsh gives Nebraska Cornhuskers a lift

The hurler’s game was good enough all on its own but it also seems to show hints that Walsh is getting better the more chances he gets. He started the year coming out of the pen and pitched a third of an inning while allowing a hit and a run in the tie-ball game against San Diego.

He followed that up with an inning where he struck out two but also allowed a home run to Northern Colorado. Considering he also allowed a homerun against the Torreros it looked like he might be pitching himself into obscurity.
