The Nebraska football team’s efforts to make inroads to Texas are paying off as they find themselves among the favorites for a top receiver from the state. Now it’s just a matter of closing the deal and really starting to haul in the Lonestar State’s top talent. If they can get Bryant Wesco to become a Cornhusker, it would go a long way in convincing the rest of the college football world that they are for real.

Wesco announced that the Nebraska football team is among the eight favorites he’s still considering on Twitter Wednesday afternoon with the help of Hayes Fawcett. Fawcett of course is someone who isn’t well loved among Husker fans, but they might be willing to forgive him if he can also help Wesco announce he’s headed to Lincoln sometime in the near future.

In addition to Nebraska football, Wesco named Oklahoma, TCU, Clemson, LSU, Colorado, Texas, and Arkansas as the finalists in the sweepstakes to land him. Briefly talking to On3 about his thoughts on each team and where they stand, the Cornhuskers have to like what he likes about the program.

"“The coaches are amazing and have great energy.”"

Matt Rhule and the rest of the coaching staff have clearly had an effect on the players they’ve recruited. Now it’s all about closing the deal.

On the other hand, some of Wesco’s comments about the other teams he’s still considering should give Nebraska football fans pause. Among them is the 4-star receivers’ comments about Texas where he said it was a powerhouse school  “with amazing QB’s to catch from.”

You would have loved to see Wesco saying that about the Huskers, even if he seems to really like the coaching staff.

Here’s hoping that one of the top players in the 2024 class is going to take a long hard look at Nebraska football and consider leaving his home state to play on the next level.
