Nebraska Cornhuskers, Big Ten could have super rivalry with the Big 12
The Nebraska Cornhuskers could be part of a big rivalry with the Big 10 and Big 12 should the Pac 12 have to wholly and finally fold up shop.
The rivalry isn’t just because the Pac-12 is about to fold and therefore there will be less big conferences in college football. It’s also looking like if things do go in the direction they’re looking, the Big 10 and the Big 12 are going to have about the same number of former Pac-12 teams in their midst. It wouldn’t certainly seem at that point that the Nebraska Cornhuskers could find themselves smack dab in the middle of an intriguing conference rivalry.
If you haven’t heard the latest Big 10 rumors, it appears that the conference could be set to go after a few other Pac-12 teams once USC and UCLA are settled in their new homes. Washington, Oregon, Cal, and Stanford are said to be getting targeted in the very near future, if not right now.
Whether the Big 10 and grabs those four teams before or after the Pac-12 officially folds, it’s clear that the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be in the middle of a college sports shakeup. Part of that shakeup would be the Big 12 riding in and snapping up most of what’s left of the floundering conference.
Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and Arizona State are reportedly targets of the Big 12. Interestingly, the Buffaloes would actually be returning to the Big 12 and that return could be central to a conference rivalry. Of course, so many Pac 12 teams being in one conference and so many in the B1G would also spell an exciting possibility for the two conferences to face off.
But the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Colorado Buffaloes restarting their rivalry in football already could be the catalyst. With all those other conference rivals suddenly taking up residence in the two different conferences. While this rivalry would be most interesting in football, it would also be an exciting matchup in the vein of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in basketball.
Nebraska Cornhuskers fans could be in store for some very interesting games in the near future.
