For some Nebraska football fans, it might be hard to really describe what the 2022 season was like. On the one hand, it was another abysmal season that saw the Huskers miss a bowl for a sixth straight year. However, those more interested in looking at the bright side can point to the fact that the failure of 2022 finally allowed the program to rid itself of Scott Frost.

Even those who want to put a positive spin on things can admit that it’s not all that thrilling to have one of the more embarrassing losses in the program’s last 50 years to be enshrined for all time. But enshrined it was.

Sun Belt also-ran Georgia Southern had itself a pretty good turnaround season in 2022 for former USC Trojan head coach Clay Helton‘s first year in town. At the top of the list of reasons why the season was so good for the Eaglels was an upset victory, in Lincoln, over a Nebraska football team supposedly fighting for its head coach’s coaching life. Already on life support after a season-opening loss to Northwestern, the Huskers pulled the plug on Scott Frost after the 45-42 loss.

Just how proud is Georgia Southern of that victory? They sent some gear from that game, along with a little note, to the college football hall of fame. Adding insult to injury, the Eagles couldn’t resist pointing out they were paid quite a bit of money to play and beat the Huskers.

"“Georgia Southern was paid $1.4 million to travel to Lincoln, NE to play the Cornhuskers on September 10, 2022. In a back-and-forth offensive bonanza, Georgia Southern defeated Nebraska 45-42. Georgia Southern quarterback Kyle Van Trease scored the go-ahead TD on an eight-yard run with forty-five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Cornhuskers missed a 52-yard field goal as time expired.”"

So helpful of them to remind everyone exactly how Nebraska football lost that game. Really appreciate that.
