The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team lost its season opener against a San Diego team that was on the ropes early but sealed things late.

Emmett Olson looked like the team ace that Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Will Bolt hoped he would be after some early struggles, but the Husker offense didn’t really come to his aid.

Despite walking seven times, the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team stranded 10, struck out 9 times and eventually saw the bullpen implode in the bottom of the 8th inning. The story was far too similar from what baseball fans have seen from Bolt’s crew last year.

There should be questions about why Corbin Hawkins stayed in as long as he did, despite clearly starting to struggle. But after one game, it’s not yet time to go after the coach. After all, had the offense produced a bit more in crucial situations, things might have gone quite a bit differently in the late innings.

The baseball team will take on San Diego in Game Two of their four-game tilt on Saturday night.
