The Nebraska football team might be having a better week than anyone realized before now. That’s because it appears that the Georgia Bulldogs are moving to other plans when it comes to their quarterback of the future. Those plans would seem to indicate that if Dylan Raiola hasn’t ruled out the defending national championship, it might be on the horizon.
While it’s impossible to know just why Georgia appears to be moving off of Raiola, the Nebraska football team is unlikely looking a gift horse in the mouth. At the same time, if the Bulldogs think their latest move doesn’t rule out the Chandler, Arizona quarterback, they probably should.
So what did Georgia do that may be pushing Dylan Raiola away? They offered Jake Merklinger out of Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal. The 2024 4-star prospect is exactly the kind of guy the Bulldogs would be recruiting to try and reload at the quarterback position. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s from the school’s home state. But things a bit different this year.
This year, Georgia is one fo the favorites to land the services of one of the top prospects in the 2024 class, who just happens to play the same position as Merklinger.
It’s possible that the team just feels as if it needs to bring in more than one quarterback in this class. But it seems unwise to be going after another QB that will be in the same class as Dylan Raiola, if they want to land the Nebraska football target.
By contrast, it seems extremely unlikely that the Huskers will be entertaining the idea of adding another quarterback in this class until Raiola makes it clear he’s not coming to Lincoln. That’s why it feels as if Georgia’s move is really more about finding a backup plan than business as usual.
And if they’re looking for a backup plan, that would seem to be very good news for the Nebraska football team and its recruiting efforts.
