Nebraska football recruiting certainly has its work cut out for it when it comes to Ainsworth’s Carter Nelson who just keeps getting Power 5 offers.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Carter Nelson is the most pressing get for the Nebraska football recruiting class of 2024. It’s not just that Nelson is the top player in the state. It’s not just that he’s rated the fifth best tight end in the entire class. It’s that if the Huskers do end up reeling the Ainsworth prospect in, it will mean they’ve fought off more than 20 other Power 5 programs (and counting) in order to land him.

Nelson announced that team number 20 came calling at the start of February in the form of the Louisville Cardinals. That many P5 schools showing this much interest this early in the process would be interesting no matter what. The fact that Carter Nelson hails from a high school that only plays 8-man football means that Nebraska football recruiting needs to nail this particular player down.

There’s also the fact that at the moment, Nelson being a Husker is not a given. One has to wonder if the more schools that come calling, the more the tight end starts thinking about what it would be like outside the confines of his home state.

At the moment, On3 believes that the Cornhuskers are still in the lead. The site currently has him as a 38 percent chance of playing his college ball in Lincoln. However, that number hasn’t changed for a while and it still shows that Kansas State and a couple of other schools aren’t too far behind.

With all the offers that Nelson has received in a relatively short period of time, including the ACC’s Louisville coming calling, it’s clear the talented tight end can call anywhere home. That makes it all the more important for Nebraska football recruiting to win the day when all is said and done.
