Looking back at the past week in Nebraska women’s basketball and what big game lies ahead for the Cornhuskers in the coming week.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team had a bit of a light schedule in the past week but the bright side is that the one game they did play, they were able to get the win.

Last week, the Nebraska women’s basketball team had just one tilt, against the Michigan State Spartans. Following a week where the Huskers lost both games, a win is a win is a win.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers built up a big lead thanks to a 26-12 scoring explosion in the second quarter. However, Michigan State dominated the second half and the Nebraska women’s basketball team needed to hold on by their fingernails for a 71-67 win.

If the Huskers want to make the postseason, they will need to play better against the also-rans of the Big Ten.

The loss for Michigan State dropped them to a putrid 3-8 in the conference. On the other hand, the Cornhuskers have been struggling a bit in 2023 so the win was perhaps important to just get them off the slide they were on.

Nebraska women’s basketball upcoming major game

The Huskers play two games in the next six days, meaning they’re facing a stark contrast to this past week. Next up is a game against Northwestern on Monday night. However, unlike their male counterparts, the Lady Wildcats are not having a very good season at all. They are just 8-14 on the year and 1-10 in the Big Ten.

That’s why the Nebraska women’s basketball team’s big game of the season comes against the Illini Fighting Illini.

The two teams are pretty similar, having lost three of their last five. However, Illinois is slightly better in conference (7-5) and overall (17-6). If the Cornhuskers make the postseason, they will knock off teams like Illinois because they are likely the big roadblocks.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team also plays Illinois twice in the next couple of weeks, and it would certainly be nice to come away with a sweep in this season’s series.
