Nebraska Basketball: Let’s all laugh at Iowa & Illinois
The Nebraska basketball season has not gone as planned. But at least the Huskers haven’t been involved in the kind of embarrassment that Iowa and Illinois recently found themselves.
I find that sometimes in a season (or seasons) Huskers fans have had to endure of late, it’s worth having a bit of fun at others’ expense. No it won’t make the constant losing any more enjoyable. Yes there’s a chance fans of Illinois and Iowa can just reply “scoreboard.”
Well, not so much Iowa.
But it’s still worth pointing and laughing at the recent shenanigans that engulfed both the Iowa and Illinois basketball programs this week. Count your lucky stars Nebraska basketball isn’t embarrassing itself in quite this fashion.
Nebraska Basketball Fans Get To Point And Laugh
So why should we be glad we’re not as embarrassing as Illinois fans, specifically? Mainly because it doesn’t appear that Nebraska basketball fans are buying tickets for the schools’ student section by pretending they’re actually getting the tickets for a charitable organization.
That’s what Illinois’ Orange Krush did earlier this week. The famed student section apparently purchased 200 tickets from the university of Iowa for the game between the Fighting Illini and Hawkeyes.
It appears that Iowa eventually learned that the tickets were actually for opposing students and canceled the sale. This led to the Orange Krush first trying to rally the internet against Iowa as they played unwitting victims.
Nebraska basketball fans at this point were likely joining with most of social media to point at laugh at Iowa for being so cowardly as to actually cancel tickets that were “legally” purchased. However, the Hawkeyes administration wasn’t taking this laying down. They soon made it clear that the tickets the Orange Krush purchased were purchased claiming they were for the Boys & Girls Club of Illinois.
When Iowa followed up they found out that wasn’t actually the case.
For several days, Nebraska basketball fans have gotten to watch discourse over who was lying until this afternoon. When the Orange Krush student section both admitted they had lied about the tickets, and also seemed to underline they didn’t understand why what they did was pretty crappy.
To be clear, this whole chapter was utterly ridiculous and the Illinois student section should be ashamed of itself for posing as a non-profit group whose aim is to help the less fortunate in order to go to a rival’s home gym.
While the Nebraska basketball program has been a pretty massive disappointment for a little too long to be comfortable, at least we can point and laugh at this embarrassment to the schools and the Big Ten.
