Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star Whitney Lauenstein has stepped away from the team for the foreseeable future due to the recent death of her father. The Husker took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce she was going to step back from playing volleyball as she tries to deal with her and her family’s grief.

"“Hi husker fans! I am coming on here to clear the confusion and rumors that you may have heard about my status on the volleyball team!. With that being said, I have thought long and hard about my decision and took the holidays with my family to clear my mind but I have decided to step away from the volleyball team to focus on myself and be with my family and continue to heal due to the passing of my dad.”"

As if she really needed to explain why she felt the need to take some time for herself, Lauenstein made it clear that she cherishes her time as a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team. However she felt it was important to put herself first during this difficult time.

As someone who lost my own father not all that long ago. Take your time and don’t come back until you are sure you’re ready, Whitney.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers News

  • While the Volleyball team is dealing with the possibility of Lauenstein being away for a while, it also knows that one of its top recruits also happens to be one of the best recruits in the country. Harper Murray has been named the Gatorade National Player of the Year in the sport. She’d previously been named the best player in the state but now she’s getting even bigger honors.
  • Meanwhile, in Nebraska football financial news, Casey Thompson has resigned with the 1890 Initiative. The NIL collective geared towards the Huskers has been singing players all winter and now they’ve added last year’s starting quarterback.

Other Sports News

  • In the NFL, it’s officially coach craziness season where every team is interviewing a new candidate a couple of times a day. The biggest name this year is Sean Payton, who has seemingly interviewed with everyone. NFL insider Ian Rappoport seems to think the most likely landing spot is with the Denver Broncos.
  • For the first time in a long time, a college basketball game was canceled because of COVID. The Northwestern Wildcats had to cancel their game at Iowa. Apparently, the Wildcats only had six players available to play. It’s worth pointing out that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are due to play Northwestern in less than a week, so it will certainly be interesting to see how this unfolds.
