For those of you who were asleep for the entirety of Saturday, it turns out that the Nebraska Cornhuskers lost out on an offensive line transfer they thought they had in the bag. It turns out, it appears that Oklahoma handed him the bag, and it was stuffed with cash.
At least, that is the prevailing theory when it comes to Walter Rouse and his decision to transfer to Oklahoma after announcing he was coming to the Nebraska Cornhuskers just a few days earlier. After he took to social media to announce he would no longer be a Husker, there was a wide variety of reaction.
Most prevalent was an anger from Nebraska football fans the likes of which I hadn’t seen for quite a while. There was tweeting at the player, there were former players going after the player’s integrity and there was a lot of talk about whether NIL and the transfer portal were good or bad.
All in all, it was an interesting Saturday, especially when you consider that the college football season is officially over.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers News
Saturday wasn’t all about Walter Rouse though. Other news stories happened as well, including a valiant effort by the Amy Williams’s Nebraska Basketball team against third-ranked Ohio State. In the end, the Huskers couldn’t shake off a tough first quarter where they trailed the Buckeyes 25-12 and the Nebraska Cornhuskers Women’s Basketball Team lost 76-67.
Walter Rouse wasn’t the only big piece of news for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team either. Salaries for the assistant coaches Matt Rhule has hired since landing in Lincoln were released earlier this week and the most interesting numbers by far were for offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and defensive coordinator Tony White. Both men are officially the highest paid coordinators in the history of Nebraska football. Satterfield will make $1.4 million this year before bonuses and White will make $1.0 million.
Other News
After spending the first half of its playoff game looking like a team that didn’t belong in the post season, the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a massive upset to advance to the second round. The Jags trailed 27-0 at one point and quarterback Trevor Lawrence had just 30 yards passing and four interceptions. When the smoke cleared late Saturday night, Jax won 31-30, and Lawrence had 288 yards and four TDs to go with those interceptions.
The Quan Proctor story is easily the weirdest in the college football transfer portal this season. Proctor took to Twitter on Friday to announce he was transferring from Savannah State. There’s just one catch. Savannah State’s offensive coordinator says Proctor never played there.
It gets even weirder when you consider that it looks like Proctor was a decent player in high school. He reportedly got offers from East Carolina, Liberty and Marshall among others. There was even an article in the local paper about Proctor eventually committing to Savannah State. He apparently just never actually went there?
The for all the drama of this season, at least the Nebraska Cornhuskers aren’t dealing with a story like this.
