Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Walter Rouse is N, basketball team wins big, more
Just two days after the Nebraska Cornhuskers added wide receiver Billy Kemp and one day after they lost out on Micah Mazzccua, Matt Rhule and company secured the commitment of one of the best offensive linemen still on the transfer market in Walter Rouse.
Rouse announced his decision on Wednesday night and then shortly thereafter signed his official paperwork. There’s no going back now as he’s a member of the Nebraska football team and one that Matt Rhule, Donovan Raiola and company will be hoping to lean on heavily in the fall.
There is one caveat with this new addition. Rouse is still rehabbing from a torn labrum. That will keep him out of practice until fall camp. But at least he’ll be able to join the Huskers roster at the beginning of the second semester and start learning what it is the new regime wants to do.
Rouse comes over from Stanford where he won the William V. Campbell Trophy, known as the “academic Heisman.” This award takes into account excellence in the classroom as well as on the field. That has to be music to the ears of Husker fans who have been looking for smarter play from the offensive line especially.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers News
- Just four days after a poor shooting performance and disappointing loss to Rutgers that continued a three-game losing streak, Nebraska women’s basketball made 13 threes and blew out Penn State 80-51.
- While the easy win was nice, it turned out that there was at least one detriment. Jaz Shelley was subbed out of the game relatively early and just before she had a chance to notch her 10th rebound. If she had managed to do that, she would have logged a triple-double. Alexis Markowski had a double-double as well, with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
- Earlier this week, the men’s Nebraska Basketball team lost out on a prized recruit. Forward Baye Ndongo committed to conference rival Rutgers. He had the Nebraska Cornhuskers in his final five.
Other College Football News
- It has been a tough 12 months for the Northwestern Wildcats and things might be getting worse. On Wednesday it was revealed that the school is investigating a hazing incident involving the football team. This doesn’t look remotely good for head coach Pat Fitzgerald, who has to already be on the hot seat following a 1-11 season. (We’ll ignore the one win was against the Nebraska Corhhuskers.)
