The Nebraska football team, by all accounts, was getting ready to welcome former Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Malik Hornsby into the fold. It was so close to a done deal that it appears Omar Hales, who has been known as the man who will let social media know when the Huskers get a commit, sounded his clarion call.

The idea was that Hornsby would pick his new school on Sunday, January 8. However, the day has come and gone and the Nebraska football team has not officially added anyone to the mix. It appears things changed when it comes to just what the former SEC player player is looking for in his next school.

According to 247Sports‘ Chris Hummer, it appears that Texas State has convinced Malik Hornsby that he can get another chance at becoming one of the top college quarterbacks in the country. That’s why Hummer, who just Saturday put in a crystal ball for Nebraska football, changed his mind and now believes the Sun Belt school is ultimately where the quarterback will end up.

That he’ll get to play QB at Texas State is not a small thing. It’s been well known that while he understands he might have to move to wide receiver eventually, Hornsby wanted to go to a school that would give him a shot to win the starting quarterback job.

With both Jeff Sims and Casey Thompson already in the mix, it’s possible he didn’t believe he had a real shot at winning the starting signal caller job in Lincoln.

If Texas State does end up being the final destination, it’s safe to say his decision has confounded some experts. It’s been no secret that Hornsby wants to play at the next level. Until Sunday it seemed as though he understood his best chance of doing that was as a wide receiver.

Hornsby had his most extensive action at quarterback in his third season with Arkansas. However, he still didn’t see a ton of time there, throwing just 27 passes (completing 13 of them) for 268 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He did also run for 172 yards and averaged 5.5 YPC.

If the Nebraska football team didn’t score Malik Hornsby, it wouldn’t exactly be back to the drawing board as other potential transfers are still on their radar.
