Never let it be said that Matt Rhule isn’t taking some very big swings when it comes to Nebraska football recruiting and the 2024 class.

Matt Rhule and his staff have made it clear that when it comes to Nebraska football recruiting, they will look far and wide for a player to join the team. Sometimes though, they don’t have to look all that far.

In the case of David Stone, Nebraska football recruiting making an offer is a bit of a no brainer. After all, the defensive lineman from IMG academy is a 5-star prospect who is inside the Top 10 players in the entire 2024 class according to all the major recruiting services.

Stone announced just ahead of the end of 2022 that he received an official offer from Nebraska. The question at this point is just how much chance do they have at landing the monster defensive lineman? The answer is unsurprisingly, “not much.” But that doesn’t mean that Rhule and his staff shouldn’t at least make it clear they aren’t afraid of taking big swings. After all, that’s they only way they’re ever going to hit a home run.

Nebraska Football recruiting has tall order with David Stone Jr.

Hauling in 5-star prospects is always going to be a tough job for Nebraska football recruiting. Especially off six straight losing seasons. However, that’s not why Stone in particular is going to be tough to land.

The 6-foot-4, 270 pound defender has really made no bones about the fact that his heart seems to be lying in Norman. As in Oklahoma. As in the Sooners.

To his credit, he hasn’t pulled the trigger on a commit just yet. He seems to still be weighing all of his options. But when looking through the big man’s Twitter timeline, it’s not hard to see that the Sooners are the team to beat. Even coming off a down year, OU might be a bit too hard for the Nebraska football recruiting efforts to overcome.
