When it comes to Nebraska football recruiting, it appears that they are mostly done with the 2023 class, outside of a few players here and there. If they are indeed keeping things open for the likes of people like Cameron Lenhardt, who won’t be announcing his commitment until January, there’s at least one more player Matt Rhule and company should take a look at. In fact, Wake Forest defensive tackle Rondell Bothroyd is basically the embodiment of who the Huskers should go after.

Bothroyd entered the transfer portal on Monday and it’s a safe bet he’s going to get a ton of attention from all sorts of different programs. He’s a finished product who could bring some serious talent to wherever he’s going next.

While the Demon Deacon doesn’t always put up eye popping numbers, he’s definitely a solid player in the middle of the line. That just happens to be an area where the Nebraska football team could use quite a bit of help.

It could, in fact, be referred to as a “problem area” when talking about positions that are concerns for the 2023 season. While the defense in general was better in the second half of 2022, a pass rush from a straight four-man rush was mostly non-existent for the Huskers this season.

While Nebraska football recruiting had an excellent finish to the early signing period last week, defensive tackle was still pretty thin. This year, Bothroyd finished with 30 tackles 3 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles. Most notably, he had 6 sacks.

2021 was the season where he really showed what he could do. That season he had a whopping 63 tackles and eight sacks. As a defensive tackle, those numbers are the kind that should make Nebraska football recruiting gurus stand up and take notice.

It does in fact, seem as though they’ve taken notice. As of tonight, Adam DiMichele, Omar Hales and Terrance Knighton are all following him. DiMichele and Hales have of course been very present in Nebraska football recruiting efforts the last few weeks. The most recent follow appears to be Knighton, who would of course be Bothroyd’s position coach should he come to Lincoln.

For now, this is just a name for Husker fans to keep an eye on. Here’s hoping he’s eventually a name signing on the dotted line.
