Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Climbing the recruiting rankings, basketball beats unbeaten, more
The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team had what can only be described as a very successful early signing day on Wednesday. The team had several big wins off the field by hauling in quite a few talented players.
That included the state’s top player in the 2023 class in Malachi Coleman. New Nebraska Cornhuskers football coach Matt Rhule had to win a bit of a duel against Deion Sanders in order to get Coleman to sign on the dotted line.
Some of the big time talent for the Huskers that came in was enough to really give Rhule’s first class a boost, even if he only had a few weeks to put it together. In fact, the team entered Number 40 in the country, according to 247Sports. They finished the day inside of the Top 30.
Considering what he did with a class that was part Scott Frost recruits, part Mickey Joseph recruits and part Matt Rhule recruits, it will be interesting to see what this group looks like on the field. It will also be plenty interesting to see what Rhule can do with a full year to recruit.

Amy Williams’ Nebraska basketball team didn’t have to rely on anyone’s opinion on how good they did on Wednesday night. They went out and beat 20th-ranked and previously unbeaten Kansas in triple-overtime, 85-79. The win improved the team to 10-3 on the season and marked their fifth straight win.
Just ahead of signing day Matt Rhule added another member to his staff. Texas high school coach Bob Wager has signed on with the Nebraska football team. It’s not entirely clear just what he’s going to be doing with the Cornhuskers but he does appear to be another addition to Rhule’s staff that is considered a very good coach and should give the group some recruiting help in Texas.
While most of the focus has been on who is coming in to Lincoln, there was a bit of news on one former Husker who is going out. Running back Jaquez Yant has committed to Florida A&M.

Speaking of the rivalry between Colorado and Nebraska, Deion Sanders might have lost out on Malachi Coleman, but he had himself a pretty decent signing day. While the Buffaloes only finished ranked 52nd in the country, they did get a big commit in Travis Hunter who followed Deion from the HBCU to Colorado.
Dabo Swinney has said some silly things when it comes to NIL and the transfer portal. He’s long been against players getting the same benefits that he’s gotten as a coach. But his comments about the NIL on Wednesday were some of the most ridiculous yet. They are cringe enough that they need to be seen to be believed.
