Since Matt Rhule was named the Nebraska football team’s head coach, there have been some big ups and downs. One of those downs was definitely the day that linebacker Ernest Hausmann announced he was entering the transfer portal.
Since the linebacker did announce he was intending to transfer, there were some Nebraska football fans who were hoping that he’d decide not to go through with it. After all, there have been some players that have pulled their name out of the portal. There are even more that are expected to pull their name out in the near future. So could Rhule and company get Hausmann to come back to the Huskers? It turns out the answer is no.
The former Cornhusker announced on Twitter that he’s decided to become a Michigan Wolverine. The announcement comes after he went on a bit of a whirlwind tour of potential schools. Earlier this month he took a trip to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
I suppose the fact that he didn’t choose what has become one of the most hated rivals of the Nebraska football team is a good thing. After all, while Hausmann is going to play against the Huskers next year, there’s no guarantee Rhule and company will have to deal with him on a yearly basis.
As of now, why Hausmann decided to leave the Nebraska is still a bit of a mystery. He hasn’t really shed much light on the decision and now clearly was quite confident in wanting to go through with it. That he’s from Columbus adds even more intrigue to this decision.
Whatever the reason for leaving the Nebraska football team, he’ll now take his surprising success in his freshman season to the Wolverines. Hausmann vaulted up the depth chart in 2022 and became a starter about halfway through. He finished the year with 54 tackles, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery.
