Now that Matt Rhule is officially the Nebraska football head coach, he’s been working quickly to fill out his staff. Before he ever got to Lincoln he’d reportedly hired three of his assistants.
On Monday morning, it was revealed that he also had his offensive coordinator in Marcus Satterfield. That hire was newsworthy because Satterfield held the same position at South Carolina for the last two years.
On Monday night, yet another addition to the Nebraska football staff was reported in Ed Foley. Foley is a colorful character who has served alongside Rhule since his Temple days.
Once news got out that Foley had been hired, social media did its thing. There was quite a bit of talk about just what kind of character Foley is, including how endearing he was when he had to take over as interim head coach of Temple after Rhule took the job at Baylor.
Ed Foley for you Husker Nation. You’re gonna love this guy. @coachedfoley https://t.co/sEtRYE4xg4

Another new hire. Ed Foley was an assistant special teams coach at Carolina and an analyst for Rhule at Baylor. Unknown if this is an analyst hire or full time 10 hire at this point. https://t.co/Ibb52WVilu

One thing is clear when looking at the reactions around Twitter to the newest Nebraska football hire. The man has built himself a bit of a following thanks to an energy that is equal parts “coach players will run through a brick wall for” and “a character from SNL.”
Of course, there’s no indication that this coach has a van down by the river. But it wouldn’t really be all that surprising.
He does appear to be someone that Matt Rhule has trusted across multiple stops in his own coaching career. That is true of most of the staff that has been put together so far.
The question that people still have is how will these new coaches mesh with whoever Rhule decides to keep from the Nebraska football staff fans got to know during the 2022 season. There is of course, no guarantee that anyone will be sticking around from Scott Frost’s last group.
