When it comes to Nebraska football recruiting efforts, there may not be a 2024 prospect that is a bigger “must get” than Carter Nelson. The Ainsworth 8-Man prospect is considered one of the best kids in his class, as well as the best kid in the state of Nebraska despite the fact that he’s had to hone his skills in a level of high school football where there aren’t enough players to field 22 man lineups.

Nelson is one of those rare players that has transcended the level of football he’s had to play at because of the population base. He’s someone who has come from a very small school to be one of the biggest gets around. And now, the Nebraska football recruiting target is getting some serious praise from national recruiting gurus like Tom Lemming.

Lemming has been spending quite a bit of time on Twitter, putting out guys from all across the country that he sees as the creme of the crop. When it came time to focus on Carter Nelson, the guru didn’t hold back.

"In 1991 I gave 5* to Rashaan Salaam La Jolla Country Day HS. Now there may be another. 8-man FB super who will earn a 5* rating. Carter Nelson 6′,5″ 215 Ainsworth,NE. superior athlete. National. HJ champ (7 ft), exceptional hands, and route running. Travis Kelce look alike."

It’s the Travis Kelce look-alike that should really raise eyebrows from those who follow Nebraska football recruiting the most. The Ainsworth prospect getting comps to one of, if not the best tight end of his era is certainly something to get the engine revving.

While Lemming is talking about giving Carter Nelson the 5-star treatment, he hasn’t quite got there yet with the two major recruiting services. Both On3 and 247Sports rate him as a 4-star prospect and the ninth-best tight end in the 2024 class. It’s also worth pointing out that at the moment, the Nebraska football recruiting apparatus has some work to do. On3 considers the race to secure his commitment one that is neck-and-neck with Kansas State.
