When it comes to Nebraska football recruiting, it doesn’t appear as though Mickey Joseph has made many missteps. The fact that it took this long for his staff to issue an official offer to Isaiah McMorris might be the first.
Rather than get mad that Nebraska football recruiting came late to the party, let’s celebrate that they showed up at all. When it comes to 2024 in-state prospects, it feels as though the ceiling for McMorris is somewhere in the stratosphere.
Most of the rest of the country seems to be coming around to that idea as well. While 247Sports has McMorris only ranked as the 6th best player in the state for the 2024 class, it feels like that’s more a statement on the talent in Nebraska high schools these days, than any indictment on Isaiah McMorris.
The young man had a phenomenal junior season for Bellevue West, finishing with 90 catches, 1,297 yards and 15 TDs. It became clear early on that he was very obviously the best player on the field most of the time his team played.
With Nebraska football recruiting finally zeroing in on McMorris, he now has five official offers, all from Power 5 schools. Late last week he had another Big Ten school come calling with Penn State actually beating the Cornhuskers to the punch.
Besides the Huskers and Nittany Lions, the offers have come from Big 12 schools that know themselves some offense. Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech were all among the first to give him an official offer.
Who is in the lead for the Nebraska football prospect?
At the moment, On3 has the Jayhawks as the slight leader in the clubhouse with Texas Tech running just slightly behind. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that those two teams have the best offenses of the bunch.
Now that Nebraska football recruiting has made Isaiah McMorris the latest in-state prospect to get an offer, it will be interesting to see how and if the landscape shifts.
