As Nebraska football recruiting efforts spin up even more with just a month to go before signing day, there’s been quite a focus on guys that won’t even be able to sign this December. In the state of the Nebraska, there have been few players who have gotten more attention, from the Huskers and other places all over the country than Carter Nelson.
Nelson has gotten that attention because he is a legitimate college tight end prospect who is considered the top player in the state for the 2024 class. He’s also getting attention because he’s become the top prospect in his class in Nebraska despite the fact that he plays Eight Man football in Ainsworth.
Even before Scott Frost was shown the door, Nelson saw interest from the Nebraska football recruiting apparatus. He received an offer from the Huskers back in May. Since then, he’s seen one Power 5 school come calling after another.
Most recently, Notre Dame and Kentucky came calling on Tuesday and drove his official offer number up to 14 total offers, with every single one of those offers coming from Power 5 schools.
While that’s generally good news for the Huskers, considering that Nelson is a tight end that looks like he could be someone that would be a game-changer, there is something to worry about here. According to On3, the margin of “victory” for the Cornhuskers is shrinking a bit, with Kansas State being a tough competitor.
Of course, there’s no way to tell just where the Ainsworth prospect might end up as he won’t be able to sign with anyone until December of 2023. The way things are going, there’s going to be even more Power 5 programs coming with offers well before that date arrives.
For now, it’s all about the Nebraska football recruiting efforts continuing to show the Eight Man player plenty of love over the next year.
