Nebraska Football Recruiting: JUCO target announcing commit soon
Mickey Joseph’s Nebraska football recruiting apparatus got its first big win last Saturday in Malachi Coleman. Could it be getting another one in JUCO defensive line target Anterio Thompson this weekend?
The Iowa Western C.C. player would be a big get for a team that is trying to rebuild itself in areas of need. One big area of need for the Huskers is the offensive line and Mickey Joseph has made no bones about the fact that he thinks NU is going to need a lot of help from the junior college ranks.
Thompson announced through his Twitter account that while he had planned to drop a Top 5 school, plans have changed a bit. Instead of narrowing his list down to top contenders, the defensive lineman is going to announce a commitment to the school of his choice on Saturday, October 29.
Now that he’s going to pull the trigger, it seems as though the Nebraska football recruiting efforts could see a big bump. However, it seems like there’s at least some decent competition from the Kansas Jayhawks.
At the moment it doesn’t appear that there’s a read on where Thompson might go that’s all that solid. On3 has the Huskers as the top contender with a 38 percent chance of landing the defensive lineman. Kansas is the next closest. Arkansas State and Illinois bring up the rear.
It’s not hard to see why the Nebraska football recruiting efforts have singled him out. Through seven games, Thompson is have a very solid season for the Reivers. He’s racked up 17 tackles, 5.5 for loss, and four sacks. The pass rush is one that the Huskers need some serious help on.
Considering that Thompson stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 280 pounds, he’s someone who could stop the run effectively as well. He’s certainly anchored a heck of a defense at Iowa Western as his squad has allowed a total of 52 points this year.
Whether or not he’s the latest win for the Nebraska football recruiting efforts this year will be decided on Saturday.
