The Nebraska football team didn’t play a game this weekend, but it still got one heck of a win. Mickey Joseph in particular, got a big win for the school and his reputation as he earned his first commitment as the Huskers head coach in the former of Malachi Coleman.

Coleman was one of the most sought-after recruits of the 2023 class, ranking as the top player in the state of Nebraska and in the Top 100 of every recruiting service around. It turns out that when he gave his commitment to the Cornhuskers, he didn’t just give them an emotional boost. He also gave the Nebraska football recruiting rankings a big and much-needed boost.

It’s been no secret that Scott Frost and company were struggling a bit this year when it came to recruiting. Most services had them outside the Top 40 if not outside the Top 50 teams. But Coleman’s commitment has the team’s ranking looking a bit more respectable.

Before Saturday, 247Sports had Nebraska football’s 2023 ranked as just the 51st best in the country. They are now up to 38th. That might not be where Husker fans want the team to end up but it’s certainly a move in the right direction.

Rivals has the Nebraska football team ranked just a bit lower, but it’s clear the Huskers’ 14th commitment definitely gave it a boost. The Cornhuskers’ 2023 class is now ranked 40th by recruiting service. It’s also now 8th in the Big 10. That’s quite a rise considering Frost’s bunch was considered one of the worst in the conference.

Of the three biggest recruiting services out there, On3 is the most bullish on the Nebraska football team’s 2023 class with the addition of Malachi Coleman. That site has the Huskers up to 31st in the country and 6th in the Big Ten.

The big question now has to be, how much more rising can the Nebraska football team do this year with the continued uncertainty surrounding the team? And of course, on a related note, who could be the next Huskers commit?
