The Nebraska football team might have lost to the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday night, but some things stood out as real positives. At the top of that list was Trey Palmer taking the next step toward being one of the best wide receivers the Huskers have ever had on the roster.

We talked about how Palmer had exceeded expectations as far as transfer players go. Then he went out and exceeded even the heightened expectations that he’s built for himself.

The Huskers receiver had seven catches for 237 yards (a school record) and two touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing yards, thanks to an end around that went for 60 yards.

All told, the Nebraska football star had nearly 300 yards to total offense and seemed to come up with a big play whenever the Huskers needed one in order to stay in the game. After his performance, more than a few people took to social media to react to the big game.

The Nebraska football star is indeed on the kind of pace that could see him break a couple of more Husker records before the 2022 season is up. His 47 catches mean that he could very easily surpass Marlon Lucky’s school record of 75 receptions.

That would also mean he’d have the school record for catches in a season for wide receivers. But even if he doesn’t pass that marks, it’s become very clear that Trey Palmer is the kind of player the Cornhuskers absolutely need this season if they’re to have any success at all.

The most surprising part is that if Mickey Joseph hadn’t been hired as the wide receivers coach by Scott Frost, Palmer likely doesn’t find his way to Lincoln. Sometimes things just work out that way. In a simply awful season, Trey Palmer has managed to be a very big bright spot for the Nebraska football team.
