Can the Nebraska football team break another streak?

The Nebraska football team has not been very good against the spread. But its also one that has been extremely predictable when they are the underdog. In fact, when they are underdogs to the level they are this weekend, they’ve been a sure loss.

The Cornhuskers have lost 24 straight games when they are double-digit underdogs (#24 was against Oklahoma.)

It’s actually pretty amazing how long this particular streak has gone. The last NU won a game where they were favored to lose big was in 2005, against Michigan in the Alamo Bowl. I suppose Husker fans can take solace in the fact that this particular streak goes well beyond Scott Frost. Or Mike Riley, or even Bo Pelini.

Mickey Joseph has already exorcized one aspect of the curse of the post-Frank Solich Huskers in beating Rutgers last week. Is there a chance he can get rid of this streak too? While it seems extremely unlikely, Purdue might be the perfect team to try and do it.

There have been times that the Boilermakers have looked more than a little human. Packed in with their impressive wins are a loss to Syracuse and a two-point win over Florida Atlantic. There’s a way to give Jeff Brohm’s team a big game.

There is a chance the Nebraska football team could pull of this win. If they manage to break the 17-year streak, it would be one of the biggest wins the program has had in quite some time and not just because it broke a streak.
