Nebraska football quarterback Casey Thompson knows a thing or too about how to take a hit. He’s had to learn this year as the Huskers’ offensive line – always a little leaky in the Scott Frost era – has been downright bad for the majority of the 2022 season. That’s led to Thompson taking some very hard hits.
That’s likely why he felt he was in the perfect position to weigh in on one of the biggest controversies that took place last weekend in the NFL. There was not one, but two games where a quarterback was sacked on what seemed like clean plays.
However, NFL refs had other ideas and called two “roughing the passer” penalties that subsequently had just about everyone who had ever watched a game of football wondering just what in the world the refs were seeing.
During the Nebraska football press conference earlier this week, Thompson had a bit of fun at the refs’ expense. Specifically, he said he wished he could have gotten the Tom Brady treatment against Rutgers when he was getting hit hard enough to almost take him out of the game for good.

"“I wish that I had the Tom Brady rule when we were playing against Rutgers on Friday. That would’ve been nice. If I would’ve had some Unsportsmanlike Conduct(s), some Roughing The Passer(s) against Rutgers… I dunno, the hit on Tom Brady, I don’t know if it was roughing the passer but as a quarterback, you’ll take the flag, of course.”"
This is absolutely the worst roughing the passer call I’ve seen in a long long time. Absolute joke to screw over the Falcons like this just to baby Brady. These refs should be suspended pic.twitter.com/PZsolvLAw4

Thompson would likely also be happy with the David Carr treatment, as he was sacked on Monday night against the Raiders, fumbled the ball, it was recovered by KC’s Chris Jones and then the whole thing was called back for roughing the passer because Jones fell on Carr as he was recovering the fumble.
Do you think this was roughing the passer? pic.twitter.com/VlBanzK60y

Honestly, considering how many extremely hard hits the Nebraska football team’s starting quarterback has taken, it’s good that he can joke about it.
