Nebraska basketball fans are almost assuredly going to be able to partake in beer, wine or liquor during Huskers games this season. That’s thanks to the fact that the Nebraska system regents adopted a proposal that will allow alcohol sales at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Originally, it was thought that the Nebraska basketball team would be joined by the Nebraska Baseball team in allowing booze at its games. However, for now, at least, the regents have decided to wait on allowing alcohol sales at Haymarket park.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star’s Chris Dunker, the move by the governing board this morning means that allowing Pinnacle Bank Arena to sell alcohol at Nebraska basketball games is up to the Lincoln city council. It’s expected that the approval by the City Council will come next week and there’s been no indication that they would say no.

While Husker fans in general are likely to be quite happy with this outcome, Dunker did point out that at least one person came and testified in person against the proposal.

That fan did not give his name when he came up to speak but did say that he’d “never seen anything positive” come from people drinking. That sentiment has been prevalent among those who have been fighting against Nebraska adopting booze sales at any of the Huskers’ events.

At the same time, the march toward beer, wine and liquor being sold at Nebraska basketball games, football games and baseball games continues on fairly consistently. Allowing this kind of imbibing is making a move across the country.

Of course, for now, it appears that Memorial Stadium might be the outlier here. For now, there doesn’t seem to be a strong push for sales at football games. That attendance numbers of those games is quite a bit higher than Nebraska basketball games likely plays a significant part in that.
