The Nebraska football season has been an unmitigated disaster so far this year. However, the Huskers have to keep on, keeping on and after a bye this weekend will return to action just in time for scary season.

The Nebraska football team begins their Big Ten slate in earnest next Saturday night and despite the fact that Indiana is 3-1, the Cornhuskers have opened the week as slight favorites to win. The odds, in fact seem to indicate that the two teams are basically even up, and the Cornhuskers are getting the nod because the game is being played at Memorial Stadium

Can Nebraska football end its struggles against the spread?

While it’s still very early yet, according to WynnBet, the Huskers are opening the week at -3.5 against the Indiana Hoosiers. There are bound to be some people who are a bit surprised that Nebraska isn’t actually the dog.

After all, Indiana not only sports a 3-1 record but they’re 1-0 against the Big Ten. Those numbers are exact opposites of what the Nebraska football team has done so far this year.

The Huskers’ only win is against FCS North Dakota and that win might have been by 21 points when the smoke cleared, but the lower tier school gave NU everything it could handle for three quarters, even going to half tied, 7-7.

For its part, the Huskers have been abysmal against the spread this season, going 0-4. Indiana hasn’t been much better as they are 1-3. That includes being 4.5-point favorites against Cincinnati this weekend. Not only did they not cover the spread, but IU lost by three touchdowns.

While the struggles of both teams against the spread might make picking the game harder than normal, the game also opens with a total of 61.5 for the game. Considering the defensive struggles of the Nebraska football team and the offensive prowess of the Hoosiers so far this season, that number seems like a bit of a gift.
