Nebraska Football vs. Oklahoma predictions and odds for Week 3 college football

The Nebraska football team squares off against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday and it turns out the two teams being historical rivals is not the biggest news story surrounding the game.

This will also be the Huskers’ first game under new head coach Mickey Joseph following the firing of Scott Frost last Sunday. With so much turmoil around the Nebraska football program, those looking to place some money on the game might be wondering what would be the best play.

Luckily we’ve got you covered in that regard. Last week, I predicted that Georgia Southern would cover the surprisingly large three-touchdown point spread. I also said that the over would be the week’s best play. It turns out I was right on both.

Nebraska football vs. Oklahoma Odds Week 3

There are times when it appears that Las Vegas is trying hard to steer bettors in one direction or another and the game against the Sooners certainly looks like that’s the case. After the spread for the game this Saturday opened at OU at -14.5, it’s gone down considerably.

WynnBet now has the Sooners at -11.5 and FanDuel set the number even closer at -10.5 for the weekend. The total seems a bit more realistic and in line with what’s been happening so far this season with both sites setting it at 66.5.

Nebraska football vs. Oklahoma Prediction Week 3

When it comes to this season in particular, one play has been a fairly easy call week in and week out. Nebraska is currently 0-3 against the spread and hasn’t come close to covering in all of its three contests yet. Of course, when a team is favored in all three and is 1-2 straight up, it’s not hard to understand why they aren’t covering.

The Sooners haven’t been great against the spread or the total so far this year, though that has more to do with how big a favorite they’ve been in their first two contests.

Oklahoma just barely covered its -31 line in Week 1 and came in just under the 58.5 total (beating UTEP 45-13.)

In Week 2, OU just barely missed it’s -33 cover (winning 33-3) but came in way, way under the total of 73.

So what happens in the Nebraska football vs Oklahoma game? I don’t think the Sooners are going to have any problem covering FanDuel’s 10.5 and wouldn’t be worried about the extra point at WynnBet.

The total is a bit trickier as Oklahoma’s defense has looked stout so far this year. There’s also just no real way to tell whether the Huskers will come out energized and ready to prove to the college football world that they’re truly ready to move on from Frost, or if they’ll come out flat and looking shaken.

As I don’t think this will be all that close a contest, I could see a final score of somewhere around Oklahoma 38, Nebraska football 20, and the under is likely the most logical play.
