While neither the Nebraska football team nor Iowa seem to want to admit it, this season-ending game has, in many ways, replaced Colorado at the height of the era when the Buffaloes and Huskers were constantly trading shots with one another at the end of the year.

There also seems to be a really, really deep dislike between the two schools that usually shows up in the week leading up to this game, even if that week has been Thanksgiving week as well.

While Scott Frost is 0-4 against Kirk Ferentz, every single game between the two teams has been within one score and there have been more than a few where one play could have completely changed the tone and tenor of the game.

Iowa is one of those teams that is confounding because they simply never look like a team that should be winning eight or nine games every year. However, they continue to be a team that limits mistakes and lets the other team shoot themselves in the foot year in and year out.

I think this year, Nebraska football flips the script a bit.

Feeling quite confident coming off a win against Wisconsin that put the Huskers in a bowl game, I think they going into Kinnick stadium with a chip on their shoulder and wanting to get their first win against another Big Ten West rival under Frost.

This will be the game that allows the Cornhuskers to say they also didn’t just squeak into a bowl with the bare minimum of wins. That’s going to be more important for Frost’s chances of sticking around than he’s willing to admit.

Nebraska 27, Iowa 17 (Huskers are 7-5 and 5-4 in the Big Ten)
